S-S-S-S-S-SNAKES - IN BROWNS VALLEY, CA!

Thanks to Mr. Gary Nafis  ( http://www.californiaherps.com/  ),  I have now all proper names for snakes shown in photos below.
Please note those beautiful patterns on snakes' heads.

THIS YOUNG
PACIFIC GOPHERSNAKE WAS FOUND DURING CALIFORNIA FALL 2006  IN SIERRA NEVADA FOOTHILLS AREA.

THE ONE BELOW WAS FOUND IN THIS SAME AREA - SUMMER 2008. IT WAS OVER 3' LONG.

AFTER A WHILE IT MOVED FAST THROUGH A DIRT AND DISAPPEARED IN THE HOLE IN THE GROUND

A LITTLE CORAL-BELLIED RING-NECK SNAKE
- about 7" long
VALLEY GARTERSNAKE
CALIFORNIA KING SNAKE - 3' long

Snakes change their color and pattern sometimes as they get larger and older - just like this
ADULT PACIFIC GOPHER SNAKE
- over 4' long -
A GOOD GUY

NORTHERN PACIFIC RATTLESNAKE - over 3' long -  A BAAAD  GUY !!!
Look at it's body - just swallowed some big mouse or such.

HOW TO IDENTIFY A RATTLESNAKE WHEN YOU CAN'T SEE ITS TAIL:

RATTLESNAKE (SLIM NECK, WIDE HEAD)  CA KING & GOPHER SNAKE (NECK & HEAD SAME SIZE)
LIZARDS,  TURTLES & Other Little Monsters:

VERY FRIENDLY ALLIGATOR LIZARD - feeling comfortable in my garden gloved hand - 11" long
